Equilar boardedge – 2015
Building on my experience with touchscreen interface design, I designed and launched the BoardEdge Executive Search App while leading the design team at Equilar. This was an end-to-end project with planning, customer research, and cross-team coordination. Built in an iterative process using agile software development system, we were able to go from concept to launch quite quickly, to get to some market feedback. Since I left Equilar, the core design has not changed much – and Equilar’s executive network, powered by the app, continues to grow .
DISRUPTING A NICHE MARKET
BoardEdge is an example of innovation that potentially disrupts an entire industry – but an industry so small, it can go unnoticed for a long time while it gains traction. The industry, in this case, is Executive Board Consultancy. This niche business vertical is filled with slow, manual steps, opacity, and heavy fee structures – all of which are upended by automation and data, if productized in the right way. BoardEdge has been able to grow and be successful, while gradually and effectively swallowing market share from executive consulting firms, who are stuck in the past with binders and rolodexes, and largely unaware of a technology-based competitor until it’s too late to adapt.
